THE 2004 EDITION OF THE BROWNWOOD LIONS WAS THE
YOUNGEST TEAM THAT COACH STEVE FREEMAN HAS FIELDED DURING HIS TENURE AT
BROWNWOOD HIGH SCHOOL. THAT YOUTH SHOWED SEVERAL TIMES DURING THE 2004
SEASON ON THE WAY TO A 6 WIN 6 LOSS SEASON. WHAT ALSO SHOWED FOR THE LIONS
IS THAT THERE IS A HUGE GROUP OF YOUNG MEN THAT DON'T KNOW WHEN TO GIVE
UP. WITH 4 OF THIER 6 WINS COMING AFTER THE LIONS TRAILED, THE 2005 LIONS
TEAM WILL SURELY KNOW HOW TO WIN. WHAT THEY HAVE TO LEARN IS HOW TO START
FAST. IN THE 4 WIN MENTIONED ABOVE, THE LIONS TRAILED EARLY IN THE GAME
ONLY TO COME BACK LATE AND PULL OUT THE WIN.
THE 2005 BROWNWOOD LIONS WILL RETURN 8 STARTERS
ON DEFENSE. THIS IS A DEFENSE THAT GAVE UP A LOT OF YARDS EARLY IN THE
SEASON, BUT CONTINOUSLY GOT BETTER AS THE SEASON PROGRESSED. BRITTON MAXWELL
WILL BE BACK AT MLB AFTER HAVING RECORDED OVER 150 TACKLES LAST YEAR. ALONG
WITH BRITTON, THE LIONS WILL HAVE KEVIN SEATON ON THE INSIDE TOO. KEVIN
HAD OVER 100 TACKLES LAST YEAR. THE LIONS DEFENSIVE FRONT WILL HAVE TO
REPLACE JUST ONE STARTER AS ERIC CORTEZ AND RYAN PENA BOTH WILL BE BACK.
OUTSIDE LINEBACKERS RINALDO CONSTANCIO AND JOHNSE HOWARD WILL BOTH BE BACK.
JOHNSE HAD A GREAT YEAR LAST YEAR AS A SOPH, AND RINALDO WILL LOOK TO STAY
INJURY FREE AFTER BREAKING HIS LEG DURING A PRACTICE LAST SEASON. THE SECONDARY,
BART JOHNSON, KYE DARDEN, JACKIE GALLOWAY WILL HAVE TO FIND JUST ONE NEW
FACE AND WILL LOOK TO SHUT DOWN OPPONENTS PASSING GAMES NEXT YEAR.
THE LIONS OFFENSE WILL HAVE EVERY SKILL PLAYER
BACK FROM LAST YEARS TEAM THAT AVERAGED OVER 300 YARDS PER GAME. JAMALL
ORGAN WILL RETURN FOR HIS SENIOR YEAR AFTER RUSHING FOR OVER 1700 YARDS
IN HIS JUNIOR YEAR. JARRETT LEE WILL BE BACK AT QB FOR HIS JUNIOR YEAR.
HE PASSED FOR OVER 1700 YARDS AS A SOPH. PLUS, WITH ALL HIS RECEIVERS BACK
FROM LAST YEAR, LOOK FOR JARRET TO PUT UP SOME EVEN GREATER NUMBERS. BART
JOHNSON, NICKEY FOLLOWWELL, KYE DARDEN, STEVE HUMENIUK WILL ALL BE BACK
AFTER HAVING A GREAT 2004 SEASON. THE O-LINE WILL BE THE COACHES MAIN FOCUS
THIS OFF-SEASON AS THE LIONS LOST ALL OF THE LINE FROM 2004. LOOK FOR LOGAN
LACY, OUT ALL LAST SEASON WITH BACK SURGERY, TO ANCHOR THE LINE.
I AM VERY MUCH LOOKING FORWARD TO THE 2005 SEASON.
I KNOW IT HOLDS A LOT OF PROMISE FOR THE LIONS.
